THE BROADBRIDGE Heath Leisure Centre Joint User Group launched a website at www.bbhleisurecentrejug.org.uk today (Thursday March 1).

The move coincides with the formal commencement of the Horsham District Council process to evaluate options for the leisure centre.

The expectation is that proposals will be approved for consultation during May at the next full council meeting on April 25, with a final decision made in June.

A Joint User Group spokesman said they welcomed the fact the process was finally getting underway, with HDC hosting a ‘kick-off’ meeting today.

“We remain very concerned about the timescales to fully research and appreciate the extent of community usage and value of BBHLC,” he said.

“We are also anxious that the leisure centre remains outside of the re-tender process for site management and is on-course to be closed to the general community from December 1.

“Unsurprisingly, this is already affecting take-up of annual membership subscriptions at BBHLC and maintains the perception of ‘closure by stealth’.

“However, we will be constructive and proactive in support of the process and providing a focal point for user groups, especially those not represented by large clubs or societies or even recognised by HDC.”
