AN EXCITING new and large scale planting scheme is to be created in North Street, Horsham, by Horsham in Bloom in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Although North Street has a tradition of attractive planting, Liz Timmer, vice-chair of Horsham in Bloom, commented: “This innovative planting is a great opportunity to make this prominent part of town even more attractive.
“It will welcome visitors to the town and complement the current improvements to the railway station.”
This new high quality scheme has been planned to provide a more continuous ribbon of planting in the wide verges.
It has been designed by Horsham District Council in the style of the contemporary ‘Dutch wave’ with specially selected herbaceous plants and grasses.
The scheme will allow for interesting viewing from afar, near distance and on closer inspection.
The project is financed by Horsham in Bloom in partnership with Novartis.
Horsham District Council’s contribution will be technical support from its parks team.
The project will start in March involving students from Chichester College and volunteers from Horsham’s Green Gym.
Any other volunteers wishing to develop their gardening skills and also contribute towards this high profile scheme on an ongoing basis would be welcomed.
