ROADSIDE restaurant Little Chef has announced it is to close 67 of its 161 sites which is expected to lead to a loss of hundreds of jobs.
The chain, which has a restaurant in Five Oaks on the A29, announced today (Wednesday) that the sites earmarked for closure were making a loss, blaming the weak economy and the location of the branches for their poor performance.
Around 500 jobs are to be lost, almost a third of the companies workforce.
The County Times contacted the Five Oaks site who provided no comment.
Little Chef went into administration back in 2007 but was bought by group RCapital, who saved 193 of the 235 restaurants.
In 2008 several branches had an overhaul by chef Heston Blumenthal which formed part of a series on Channel 4.
As of yet Little Chef have not confirmed which sites are to close.
