Children at a primary school in Ashurst are celebrating after ranking third in the country for their high SAT results.

All 11-year-olds at Ashurst Church of England Aided Primary school exceeded the expected standard for their age in english and maths, sending them to the top three of the league tables.

Overjoyed with the school’s performance headteacher, Janet Williams, said: “All associated with the small village school are delighted with the results of the KS2 SATs once again.

“The excellent achievement of Ashurst pupils is founded upon the quality of relationships that exist between all members of the school community.

“The school aims to provide pupils with an education of the highest quality, and to promote the development of every child towards the fulfilment of his or her potential, wheresoever that may lie.”

Performing Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat for all the teachers and parent this winter, the Ashurt Primary School continue to shine.

Horsham District Councillor for Steyning, Sue Rogers, sees the results as ‘no surprise’.

She said: “It’s a lovely village with the biggest hearts in terms of the people, so I’m not surprised by the high standard as I think it’s represented by the place.

“There’s a real sense of community there and that’s why the school has continued to do so well - that sort of spirit infiltrates all the people, particularly the children.”

The school ranked third in England out of 213 others.
