The future of access and parking in East Street will be debated next week amidst controversy over the Horsham town centre street’s pedestrianisation.
The experimental Traffic Regulation Order, which was enforced in March, and restricts traffic between 10.30am and 4.30pm, will be considered by North Horsham County Local Committee on Monday December 17 at 7pm in County Hall North in Chart Way.
The TRO also included the relocation of designated loading bays and parking spaces for blue badge holders.
After receiving a number of objections to the current scheme, the committee will be considering the future of the TRO.
Brad Watson (Con, Southwater and Nuthurst), committee chairman, said: “We have received a lot of feedback on the experimental TRO in Horsham.
“It has been interesting to find out how the residents and traders have viewed the changes.
“While some of this has been positive, we have also received some objections and therefore it is imperative that we consider all of our options before reaching a decision.
“These are to revert back to the original TRO which allows access to disabled users and for loading at all times of the day or consider a different TRO.
“Alternatively we could proceed to a Public Inquiry where an Independent Inspector would be appointed to consider the representations and recommend how to proceed.”
While the changes have sought to promote a cafe culture in the Horsham street, it has angered disabled drivers, who are unable to access the disabled parking spot outside Ask when the barriers are up.
Other items on the agenda include Horsham Bus Station, the latest round of applications for Community Initiative Funding and the ‘Talk with Us’ open forum.
