A former Status Quo drummer hosted a percussion workshop at a secondary school in Horsham last week.
Rock veteran, Jeff Rich, swung by The Forest School in Comptons Lane to teach the students drum basics and offer industry advice.
Jeff explained: “I’m doing a drummer percussion workshop for a variety of students at different age groups.
“I talk about how I got into the music business, my career and how the drums developed from Africa to today.
“I also play on the drum kit for them and get them to come up and join in.”
Having visited more than 5,000 schools across the UK, including primary, secondary and colleges, Jeff said he hopes to inspire future drummers.
“I’m very passionate about what I do and hopefully that comes across.”
Jeff hit stardom as the drummer in legendary outfit, Status Quo for 16 years. He then played for heavy metal band, Def Leppard, after drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident.
Jeff spoke of his old band mates. “I still speak to the guys in Quo because I was with them for so long.
“It was my decision to leave because I never got to see my first two kids grow up and I have little babies now, so I want to be there this time.”
The legendary drummer from Nottingham divulged his intention to make a return visit to West Sussex in the future.
“Hopefully I’ll get to come back to the area again and do some more workshops.”
The Forest School head teacher, Ms Siobhan Denning said: “This is great for our boys who are either in a band, want to be in a band, have drumming lessons, or are just interested.
“Drumming is a real strength in the school.”
