Drivers are facing chaos on roads in the Horsham district this morning (Friday October 19) following a number of accidents and ‘widespread’ diesel spillage.
Major delays have been reported on the A24 which is partially blocked with queueing traffic northbound at Hop Oast Park And Ride Roundabout.
Congestion has been reported as far back as Buckbarn crossroads.
Meanwhile recovery work is taking place on the A23 near Bolney after an accident and a fuel spillage.
The road has been closed and there has been stationary traffic southbound between the B2110 junction in Handcross and Bolney Cross in Bolney.
Congestion has been reported as far back as Pease Pottage.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “Police are advising drivers on A-roads across Sussex to be extra cautious, following widespread diesel spillage this morning.
“A number of collisions and other incidents have been reported after an articulated lorry has made its way across the area, unknowingly leaking diesel. It was located and stopped in Littlehampton.
“The A23 southbound at Handcross Hill has been temporarily closed while police and partners make the steep part of the road safe. Incidents have also been reported on the A272, A24 and A280.”
