Bus services in West Sussex are running as normal today (Wednesday, October 10) in the wake of the regional arm of bus operator Countryliner going into administration.

Countryliner Sussex Ltd, which ceased trading on Monday, ran services in West Sussex, East Sussex and Surrey.

West Sussex County Council has put temporary arrangements in place with Countryliner and other bus operators to ensure all 12 of the routes Countryliner operate in West Sussex are fulfilled for today.

The authority has negotiated with other operators to put short-term temporary contracts in place so all affected routes can run for the next few days.

Further announcements will be made in due course once the situation becomes clearer.

County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, Pieter Montyn, said: “At the moment our priority is to make sure schoolchildren who have no way to access other services get to and from school.

“We are working hard to minimise the disruption and keep everything running as best we can.”

County Council cabinet member for education and schools, Peter Griffiths, added: “We are working very closely with bus operators to ensure school buses remain as unaffected as possible.”
