FORMER gym instructor Nicky Moynihan has launched an online petition to save Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre - and gathered more than 650 signatures within days.

Nicky, aged 22, of Swindon Road, Horsham, (pictured above) was incensed when he heard of the council’s plans to demolish the centre where he used to work before recently going back to college to study science.

“I have a close connection with the centre and everyone that works there and uses the facilities,” he said. “I still go to the gym there about five times a week, so to see how devastated my friends were about it, I just had to think of something to do to try and help.

“The thing about Broadbridge Heath is that it’s not just a gym like a lot of people think! There are so many different things they run there.

“So I want to try and educate people on the impact it will actually have on the community. Whether it be about the athletics, kids’ clubs, HAODS, badminton, football, hockey... etc.

“Having worked there, especially in the gym, you become friends with the customers. I can’t think of many jobs where you see members of the public so many times a week, and then call them your friends as well, means a lot.”
