A NEW retirement home was opened in Pulborough last week in a ‘picture-perfect setting’.

The Green Meadows retirement scheme, Rivermead, celebrated its official opening on Friday (November 25).

Guests, including Horsham District councillor Brian Donnelly (Con, Pulborough and Coldwaltham), were able to look at the development over lunch and got to experience the views it has to offer residents overlooking Pulborough Brooks Nature Reserve.

The scheme was built in partnership with housing association Saxon Weald, Horsham District Council (HDC) and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

Funding of £200,000 was provided by HDC, while £1.5million was granted by the HCA.

David Avery, Saxon Weald’s chairman, said: “I’m delighted to open this retirement scheme which addresses local needs for local people, providing high-quality housing in such picturesque surroundings.”

The building consists of 20 apartments split over two inter-linking blocks, Nightingale House and Skylark House, all of which are fully occupied.

Apartments are a mix of one and two bedrooms, and the communal facilities have proved ‘very popular’.

Volunteers from the Pulborough Community Care Association have also become involved by holding bulb planting sessions for the residents in the communal garden.
