A team of five pupils from Tanbridge House School in Horsham has taken first place in the south east’s regional round of the St John Ambulance National Schools’ First Aid Competition.

They will now go on to compete against other regional winners from across the country in the national final – to take place at the Natural History Museum in London on June 27.

The winning team beat off competition from five other teams in their category in the regional heats in Surrey on May 2.

The pupils in the team who will also represent the school in the final are: Phoebe Morley, 12, Erin Clarke, 12, Caitlin Maltby, 13, Kirsty Campbell, 12, and Kayleigh Turtle, 12.

Caitlin said: “I enjoy learning first aid as it is a skill which could save lives.”

This is the fifteenth year that Tanbridge House has made it through to the final of the St John Ambulance National Schools’ First Aid competition and this year they are hoping to go all the way and be crowned national champions.

Pam Leadbeater, who teaches first aid at Tanbridge House said: “I am extremely proud of our teams coming in the positions they did out of schools from eight different counties.

“This is a wonderful achievement for the students and for the school.

“We’re looking forward to the national finals in June and hope to repeat our success from the regional round.”

The St John Ambulance National Schools’ First Aid Competition tests youngsters’ first aid knowledge, treatment and teamwork in a variety of scenarios on live ‘casualties’.
