THE CONSERVATIVES scored a slender victory over the Liberal Democrats at a Chichester District Council by-election in Plaistow yesterday (Thursday April 19).
Nick Thomas, the Conservative candidate, beat out Liberal Democrat Ray Cooper by 47 votes, balloting 455 to 408.
The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Conservative councillor Linda Westmore.
Mr Thomas will now represent the Plaistow Ward on CDC until May 2015, when the next District Council elections will take place.
The current make up of CDC is now 37 Conservatives, 8 Liberal Democrats and 3 Independents.
The percentage turn-out for the election was 22.59%.
