TWO MEN were seen trying to break into a house in Shepherds Way, Roffey, last week.

Police were called to reports of two men acting suspiciously around 2.20pm on April 11.

The pair had been spotted ringing doorbells and climbing over the fences of two homes.

Police arrived and found an attempt had been made to break into one of the houses.

Sussex Police are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact them.

The member of the public who called police described the men as white and in their 20s.

One was about 5’8” tall, with short hair and wearing a white jacket or top with long sleeves and baggy jeans.

The second is described as 5’10” tall, with short dark hair, wearing a waist length dark jacket and dark baggy jeans.

DS Jon Pink of West Sussex CID said: “In the last two weeks there has been a spate of six burglaries in the Roffey area within the vicinity of Little Haven Lane, Hawksbourne Road, Lambs Farm Road and Shepherds Way with the boundary of the main Crawley Road.

“In relation to the incident last Wednesday, I would ask that anyone who has not yet called in and assisted us but remembers seeing the men described acting suspiciously in the area to do so immediately, however insignificant they think the information may be.

“I would also ask local residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour to the police, as well as ensuring their houses are fully secure when they leave them.

“This sudden series of burglaries is not common in the area of Roffey and the Horsham District Neighbourhood Team will be undertaking more patrols in the area.”

Two men, said to be aged 21 and 27 and from Horsham, have been arrested and released on bail until April 26.

Anyone with information can contact West Sussex CID at Crawley on 101 quoting ‘Roffey burglaries’ or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
