MORE THAN £6M will be invested to achieve ‘super-fast’ broadband for most of West Sussex, says the county council.
Plans to bring improved broadband for 90 per cent of the county by April 2015 have been approved by the government.
West Sussex County Council (WSCC) claim this will mean easier access to services and entertainment and cheaper communication.
The recent approval paves the way for the procurement of a supplier to put in the necessary infrastructure.
Lionel Barnard, deputy leader of WSCC, is calling on residents to show how much support there is for better broadband.
He said: “Better broadband access will bring many benefits to West Sussex.
“It’ll boost business, reduce social isolation and enhance our way of life. I want everyone to fill in a demand registration form to pledge their support.
“We know more than 2,000 people have already registered, but there are areas where responses haven’t been so strong; in particular around Midhurst and Rogate.
“These are the some of places which would benefit massively from access to improved broadband being installed.”
All local authorities need to prepare a Local Broadband Plan and have it approved before they can draw on their allocated funding.

A WSCC spokesperson said: “Registering your demand registration doesn’t commit you to signing up for any new services but will help to bring better, faster broadband to West Sussex for everyone’s benefit in the future.”
