Henfield man ‘killed by train’ in Hassocks

The man ‘killed by a train’ in Hassocks yesterday afternoon (Monday April 7) was from Henfield, British Transport Police (BTP) has confirmed.

Emergency services arrived at Hassocks railway station just after 2pm.

The 49-year-old was declared dead at the scene.

A BTP spokesperson said: “Just after 2pm today, Monday April 7, we received reports of a person having been struck by a train at Hassocks station.

“Officers attended, alongside colleagues from Sussex Police and local paramedics and discovered a man had been struck and killed by a train.

“The death is not currently being treated as suspicious and officers are currently working to formally identify the deceased.

“Following the formal identification we will assist in the preparation of a report for the coroner.”

The train involved was the 1.34pm Brighton to Bedford service.
