A cyclist has suffered serious injuries after a collision involving a car on the A24 in Horsham this afternoon (Tuesday August 20).
Emergency services including an air ambulance were called to Hop Oast Roundabout at around 2pm.
The cyclist, a 49-year-old Brighton man, suffered leg and facial injuries.
Police say the injuries are serious.
Paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service took the victim to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton at around 3pm.
The driver was also checked over at the scene.
The road is closed and a diversion has been put in place via Worthing Road through Southwater.
It will remain closed until at least 6pm, say police.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “Police received reports of a collision between a car and a cyclist at Hop Oast Roundabout, Worthing Road, Horsham, at around 2.20pm today.
“The cyclist, a 49-year-old man from Brighton, suffered serious injuries.The driver of the Fiat 500, a 71-year-old man from Worthing, was shaken but uninjured in the collision.
“The A24 was closed just before 3pm from Southwater roundabout, with traffic being redirected through Southwater. The road is expected to remain closed until at least 6pm, with traffic disruption expected between Buckbarn to Southwater.”
Police are appealing to witnesses of the collision to contact Sussex Police on 101, quoting serial 889 of 20/08.
