DUNSFOLD Park bosses hope to run more than 1,500 extra flights during the Olympic Games.

The company which owns the airfield has applied for permission to provide extra flights and to operate from 7am to 9pm every day from July 21 to August 15.

At the moment, flights are only allowed between 7.30am and 8.30pm during the summer months.

No flying is allowed on Sundays, or after 3pm on Saturdays.

The site is also limited to a maximum of 5,000 flights per year.

Waverley Borough Council will have to decide whether to relax those restrictions on the airfield.

The council’s planning department has so far received five letters of objection from concerned local residents.

In July, the aerodrome was named by the Government as one which would be ‘coordinated’ during the Olympics.

From July 21 to August 15, any flight involving a coordinated airfield will have to have a takeoff or landing slot pre booked with Airport Coordination Ltd.

The announcement, by Secretary of State for Transport Philip Hammond, did not state that the named airfields would be needed to help cope with extra passengers.
